Jackass star Steve-O has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.
The 41-year-old television personality, who rose to fame thanks to his crazy stunts on the MTV show and spin-off movies, hit headlines in August (15) when he launched a protest against SeaWorld.
Steve-O, real name Stephen Gilchrist Glover, climbed atop a crane in Hollywood and blew up an inflatable killer whale which had the words “SeaWorld sucks” emblazoned on the side. He also set off fireworks.
After coming down from the crane, Steve-O was arrested and taken into custody.
On Wednesday (07Oct15), he pleaded no contest to charges of trespassing and illegal use of fireworks, according to Los Angeles City Attorney’s spokesman Frank Mateljan.
As well as his jail time, Steve-O will also sentenced to three years of probation. In addition, he has to pay the city of Los Angeles a staggering $14,000 due to the emergency response his stunt caused.
Following his sentencing, Steve-O took to his Instagram to reveal the news and his feelings about the judge’s decision.
Alongside a cartoon of himself behind bars talking to his fellow inmate, an Orca whale, Steve-O wrote: “Considering I've become a clean and sober, dog-rescuing vegan, I must say I'm ready to go to jail - not just because it will bring so much attention to the plight of orcas in captivity, but because it's nice to let people know I haven't lost my edge.
“What can I say, I'm a jackass."
Steve-O documented his crane protest on his social media pages, teasing fans for 24 hours beforehand that he was planning “a big dangerous stunt in Los Angeles tomorrow that will probably get me in a lot of trouble”.
But despite his sentencing, Steve-O insists he has no regrets about the protest and is pleased it raised awareness of his cause.
"My whole crane-climbing, fireworks debacle really turned out to be pretty meaningful in the end, too. I mean, if your goal is to make a statement about captivity, you may as well get yourself locked up!" he continued.
