Straight Outta Compton third week on top

Straight Outta Compton, the biopic of N.W.A., is number 1 at the box office for a third week.

This time it was a lot closer than the first two weeks of release. Compton ended the week with and estimated $13,240,000 with the faith-based film, War Room, slightly behind at $11,000,000. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was third with $8,300,000.

Compton's total box office is now at $134,126,000, an astounding amount for a music biopic. For comparison, Ray, the story of Ray Charles with Jamie Fox, took in $75,331,600 and Walk the Line, the Johnny Cash story, hit $119,519,402.

It is doubtful that Compton can make it four weeks in a row with the upcoming Labor Day weekend even with only a couple of lesser movies opening. Expect to see it drop into the $6,000,000 range for the weekend.
