Mena Suvari is negotiating a return to TV in a new US thriller.
The American Beauty actress looks set to take on a role in WE network’s South Of Hell, a supernatural drama set in Savannah, Georgia about a demon-hunter-for-hire struggling with evil forces of her own, according to Deadline.
The outlet reports Sonar Entertainment and Blumhouse Television have received an eight-episode straight-to-series order for the show, premiering next year.
Eli Roth will direct the first episode, scripted by Matt Lambert, and is also producing.
Jason Blum, Gerard Bocaccio, Gene Stein, Stewart Till and James Manos Jr. are also executive producing, with the latter serving as showrunner.
The casting news comes as Mena wraps up her role on Amazon pilot Hysteria, about a doctor investigating a mysterious epidemic.
She also recently wrapped a role on US TV drama Chicago Fire and has appeared on hit series American Horror Story.
Mena, 35, shot to fame at the age of 20 for her work in Academy Award-winning film American Beauty.
While the star has enjoyed more than a decade of success, she’s spoken in the past about her struggle to cope with fame.
“I got really frustrated with [the industry], and I felt very rebellious towards it, because I didn't feel like I was in control of my life, and that bothered me," she told British newspaper The Independent back in 2012.
"I had to stay true to who I was, and pursue the kinds of things I was interested in. I decided to go that route. There were things I chose not to work on, because it didn't do anything for me."
The celebrity lifestyle also holds little appeal for the star, who has insisted she works for the art of it, not for the status.
"I've been to parties where people have walked up to me and said, 'I will do whatever it takes to become famous'. And that's scared the hell out of me!" she recalled.
“[I’ve got] a love-hate relationship. When did it all become about celebrity and perfection' Especially in Los Angeles."
