The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 tops Thanksgiving Box Office

The final instalment of the Hunger Games franchise has held off competition from Creed and The Good Dinosaur to remain at the top of the Box Office.

The film - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 - took $13.7 million on Wednesday 25 November (15), pushing its domestic haul to $136.3 million.

The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen alongside Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson and so far it has racked up $320 million worldwide according to Variety, although its debut had the lowest opening of any of the four movies in the franchise.

The film had stiff competition from the Rocky reboot Creed, which stars Michael B. Jordan as a young boxer who asks Sylvester Stallone's famous character Rocky Balboa to train him.

Creed punched above its weight, picking up $6 million from 3,350 locations in its opening day.

For Michael, 28, it was a brilliant experience to work with legendary actor Slyvester, 69, and enjoyed being pushed to new levels by the star.

"I think Sly is an amazing actor and he gives you whatever you need in your scene," he gushed to ET Online. "I would like to think that we pushed each other in those scenes to the breaking point, to those limits where you found the raw emotion."

Also doing well across the holidays was The Good Dinosaur, racked up $9.8 million across more than 3,600 locations.

The movie focuses on a young dinosaur separated from his family and cost just under $200 million to produce and marks the first time Pixar has released two films in one calendar year having put out hit movie Inside Out earlier in 2015.

Not fairing so well was Victor Frankenstein, which stars James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe, as it only managed $620,000 from 2,797 locations and is expected to end the holiday weekend with a lowly $7 million.
