Almost 25% of British males have taken to the streets in a pair of tights. The metrosexual man works hard to look good and new research suggests that, in a bid to focus attention on his taught and toned pins, the modern man is taking a tip from the Musketeers of old, and turning to the most traditional of garments, a pair of tights, to show off what he has to offer!

Fashion psychologist Kate Nightingale suggests that this is a direct result of the steep rise in body-conscious men who are making a concerted effort to look good, go to the gym and eat well. As a result, competition for female attention is at an all-time high and, in a final bid to stand out from the ever-expanding crowd of beefy bachelors, men are frantically turning to extreme measures and donning a pair of tights to emphasise what they have to offer to its fullest potential!

“The modern man is merely imitating nature by attempting to focus female attention on his physical attributes. Turning to tights, a garment designed to leave little to the imagination and directing attention unavoidably in one direction, is akin to a male peacock spreading his colourful tail feathers in a bid to secure a mate amongst stiff competition” suggests Kate Nightingale.

Avid tight wearer, Philip Malcolm, insists that he wouldn’t have met the woman of his dreams if he hadn’t been wearing a colourful pair of figure-hugging tights one night in London. Philip says: “After seeing the success men of the past had with the ladies whilst wearing a pair of tights and a codpiece, I became convinced this was how I could get myself noticed…and it worked!”

This trend has visibly taken off since the release of the latest Three Musketeers film last October which saw Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Orlando Bloom slip on a pair of tights. Men looking for fashion inspiration can purchase themselves a copy of The Three Musketeers on DVD, releasing nationwide February 27th 2012.
