(Cover) - EN Movies - Charlize Theron will play the lead in an American adaptation of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

The crime thriller was released in 2005 and is part of South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s titular “Vengeance Trilogy”, which also includes Oldboy and Mr. Vengeance.

Variety reports that Charlize will star in and produce the remake that will be helmed by William Monahan.

"This will be very American - and very unexpected," William said.

"Park is a genius; it's the Everest of adaptations and I've got blood in my teeth to do it."

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance follows a woman who was just released from prison after serving a 13-year sentence for the kidnapping and murder of a young boy. When she is back amongst the public, she goes after the man who really took the child’s life.

Charlize will serve as producer alongside helmer William, Denver & Delilah’s Beth Kono, DJ Entertainment’s Ted Kim, Megan Ellison and Annapurna Pictures’ Chelsea Barnard.

Megan and Annapurna will finance the feature.
