Tom Hardy says the shoot for Mad Max: Fury Road was unorthodox.

Tom takes on the lead role in the reboot of the classic Mel Gibson action adventure. Helmed by George Miller, the film boasts an all-star cast including Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Zoƫ Kravitz.

Talking about filming the fast-paced flick, set in a post-apocalyptic world, Tom says it was anything but conventional.

"It wasn't orthodox, at all. I mean there was a call sheet and there was a schedule, and we had to make the schedule; and we had six months, eight months to shoot it. George had such a weight on his shoulders, but the brilliant weight of imagination that he needed to translate his vision into reality, from in here and out there. Now I've seen it, and it's such an extravaganza and explosion of colours. I don't think it was possible for him to explain it before, even to us," Tom told Total Film magazine.

Tom's movie career is full-on at the moment, with new film Child 44 due to hit cinemas next week and a further four features currently in production, including his portrayal of both Ronnie and Reggie Kray in Legend.

After his successful turn in the BBC's hit drama Peaky Blinders last year, Tom will also be back on the small screen in new project Taboo.

The 37-year-old hasn't ruled out a return to Mad Max either.

"These things largely depend on the performance of a vehicle. I have no shadow of doubt in my mind that we'll be going on again with this. Nobody's been waiting quite as long as George to make sure it happened, and it has happened. And what he's done is incredible," he praised.
