(Cover) - EN Movies - Tom Hiddleston was “very sad” when he learned Kenneth Branagh would not be directing Thor 2.

The actor played the villain, Loki, in the first movie which was out earlier this year. He has confirmed that he will star in the sequel.

Tom greatly admired Kenneth’s work on the first film and was heartbroken to hear that he wouldn’t be returning.

“You know, initially, I was sad that he wasn't coming back,” he told Moviefone. “When I had heard that he had chosen not to come I was very sad because I'm so proud of his achievements in directing that film. But, then, I understand why. He's very busy and he's got other things that he wants to do as an artist. As a director and as an actor.”

The first film was based on the Marvel comic books and followed warrior-god Thor as he was cast into the human world.

Tom thinks the film worked well because the action was balanced with a strong story and performances.

“Marvel is so clever. They know their own metal,” he explained. “They know how to do the comic book stuff. Car explosions and all the CGI and stuff, but they need someone who has a really great handle on story and actors and the muscularity of performance.”

The star has wrapped filming on the all-star cast of comic book adventure The Avengers.

The movie has received a lot of publicity and Tom is very thankful for the interest the public have shown.

“I've been in the opposite situation where you've worked really hard on something and nobody wants your signature and nobody wants a poster of you,” he laughed. “So, yeah, I should be so lucky!”
