(Cover) - EN Movies - Tom Wlaschiha was attracted to “multi-layered” script of new movie Resistance.
The German star plays commanding officer Albrecht in the film adaptation of Owen Sheers’ novel.
The story is set in an alternative history where the Germans repelled the D-Day invasion and began to occupy Britain. It focuses on a small Welsh community, in which all the men have disappeared and the Germans come to investigate.
“When I read the script I immediately thought it is a very poetic story and it’s a very multi-layered story,” he told Cover Media. “It’s not one of those clear cut stories and it gives a lot of room for actors to portray different shades of characters.”
The movie focuses on Albrecht and his relationship with Welsh farmer’s wife Sarah Lewis, played by Andrea Riseborough.
Tom was fascinated by the underlying emotions and struggles of the pair.
“Obviously there’s no happy end. The whole relationship goes through different stages, they can never really talk openly to each other, because they come from different points,” he explained. “That’s a very interesting it’s almost like a cat and mouse game. One takes a step forward the other takes a step back and then the other approaches again. I really liked that about the part.”
The Valkyrie actor also enjoyed working with director Amit Gupta. Tom was shocked to learn the Resistance was Amit’s first feature length movie.
“I was really surprised he had only done some short films before,” he revealed. “He knew what he wanted, he knew where he wanted to go with the film, but at the same time he left us a lot of room to bring in our ideas. So you had the feeling in the end that you were creating something together, that was a really good experience.”
Resistance is released in the UK on November 25.
