Tony Scott’s 1986 drama starring Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis will play in IMAX theatres for six days next year, Paramount Pictures announced today.

The film has earned a worldwide gross of over $353.8 million since its release 26 years ago.

The remastered version will begin playing in selected theatres on February 8.

It will also be released on Blu-ray.

It marks the first time the film has been converted to 3D for cinemagoers.

Paramount bosses said the process including “painstaking” efforts to convert original negative scans into a high-resolution 3D-quality masterpiece.

"From the spectacular aerial dogfights to the intense close-ups in the cockpits, each frame enables the audience to feel a part of the story," read a statement from the company.

The announcement comes nearly four months after Tony Scott’s death.

The celebrated film director died on August 19 after jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in California.
