Toy lovers get ready - Toy Story will be back for a fourth instalment.

The enduringly popular animated movies, made by Disney and Pixar, appeal to adults and kids alike.

Following the adventures of toys who come to life when no one is around, the first film in 1995 paved the way for high-quality animation and the franchise has grossed more than $1billion worldwide. And now Disney has announced plans for film number four.

"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," Toy Story director John Lasseter said in a statement. "We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before.

"Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew [Stanton, Finding Nemo director], Pete [Docter, director of Up], Lee [Unkrich, Toy Story 3 director], and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself."

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen lend their voices to the movie's protagonists, cowboy Woody and spaceman Buzz Lightyear, with John Ratzenberger, Don Rickles and Wallace Shawn just some of the other names making up the ensemble cast of well-loved toys.

US actress Rashida Jones has been announced as the writer for the new flick and Galyn Susman will produce.

Earlier this week, one of Toy Story's best-loved lines topped a poll of top ten movie quotes.

Buzz's catchphrase "To infinity... and beyond!" beat the likes of James Bond, Terminator and Casablanca - all of which didn't make the Radio Times cut - to be crowned top film quote.
