Mia Wasikowska thinks there can “always be more” female roles.

The 24-year-old actress has embodied a variety of characters over the years, from the title role in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to Jesse Eisenberg’s love interest Hannah in The Double.

Mia always makes sure she has a connection to the part she takes on, but she isn’t impressed with the way some films are targeted at a certain audience.

“I really liked the people and characters I play; they’re not necessarily always nice. People were saying to me, ‘Oh, you play a lot of unsympathetic, moody, grumpy people,’ and I was like, ‘Oh… OK.’ [laughs] But, when it comes to female roles, there can always be more,” she explained Refiney29.

"We’re always talking about female roles, and whenever it’s male roles, it’s just ‘films.’ But when we always categorise a film with a female as a ‘female film,’ it becomes kind of irritating in a way, because it should just be another film. We always have to define it as being a women’s film.”

While she feels strongly about the way men and women are viewed in the movie industry, Mia insists she isn’t one of the actresses who prefer to be called an 'actor'.

The starlet keeps herself busy and currently has three films in the pipeline, on top of her current movie Maps to the Stars. While she’d like to settle down one day, she isn’t in a rush.

“I want to have a family and kids and stuff like that, but I don’t want to put that pressure on myself in terms of age because I feel like it will inevitably set up anxiety or something,” she added. “I want to be happy, and that’s something you have to work on, as everyone does.”
