Zoë Kravitz: I hated the fake me on Twitter

Actress Zoë Kravitz was forced to join Twitter to flush out the person who was saying “weird stuff” while pretending to be her on the site.

The 26-year-old star is pretty used to being in the limelight thanks to her superstar parents Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet. But things have amped up a level since she became successful in her own right, bringing with it a whole new set of things she needs to deal with.

“I only joined (Twitter) because there was a fake Zoë Kravitz on Twitter saying all this weird stuff that I didn’t want to be associated with,” she explained to elle.com.

Other things have changed for the star too, such as how she spends her free time. Before she was so well know she enjoyed walking and looking around cites, but that is now pretty much out of the question.

“I really feel the difference (when I’m home in New York),” she said. “My favourite thing is to take the subway and just walk around with my headphones on. Now people recognise me and it’s changed with everyone on social media – they all want selfies.”

It’s not all bad though; Zoë is pleased to see there is a move towards women being more involved in movies. She believes it’s time, suggesting that if females can’t get the roles they want, they should start writing them and then go behind the camera to direct as well.

That said, she isn’t entirely happy being labelled a feminist.

“It’s a funny thing to me,” she said. “To be a feminist, you’re almost validating all the things that feminists are against. I would rather completely disregard all stereotypes. With (movie) Mad Max, I was surprised by the responses of, ‘Oh my god, this is a feminist film.’ It’s cool that people responded that way, but to be honest, I didn’t think about that when we were shooting. I was just like, ‘Yeah, these women are badass.’”
