(Cover) - EN Movies - Tom Cruise is confirmed to star in Mission: Impossible 5.
The action hero will reprise his role as special agent Ethan Hunt in the latest instalment of the blockbuster franchise, Deadline reports.
Tom will also produce the film.
Executives at Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions confirmed the casting news on Monday. The companies are co-financing the project. They have declined to say who is writing and directing the screenplay.
According to the film’s IMDb page, Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie will be helming the picture.
Brad Bird directed the last Mission: Impossible film, 2011’s Ghost Protocol. The project stormed worldwide box offices, grossing nearly $700 million. The figure is a personal record for the actor.
Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Ving Rhames are rumoured to be reprising their roles in the follow-up.
Tom is currently starring in post-apocalyptic drama Oblivion.
His next project, sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill, is currently in post-production for a 2014 release.
The actor has also signed on to star in Guy Ritchie’s action adventure comedy The Man from U.N.C.L.E., as well as action adventure fantasy Van Helsing, directed by Rupert Sanders.
