Emma Watson is “not trying to run away” from her Hermione Granger image.

The actress portrayed the intelligent little girl in the Harry Potter movie franchise for many years.

However she is not trying to shun the character as she takes up more adult roles in films such as her latest The Bling Ring.

"I'm not trying to run away from it," she revealed at a Cannes Film Festival news conference. "I'm very proud of the work that I did.”

Emma stars in Sofia Copolla’s new motion picture about a group of American youngsters who break into a series of celebrities’ houses.

The true story sees her completely on the opposite end of the spectrum as far as her wizardry role is concerned.

“I'm just really enjoying having the chance to transform into new roles," she admitted, according to USA Today. "It's strange for me because Harry Potter seems like such a long time ago. So much has happened over the last three or four years. But obviously it's very present in people's minds and living rooms."

Emma loved being able to improvise scenes with her co-stars in The Bling Ring. She was not allowed to do this when filming her movies based off the J.K. Rowling books.

The English thespian analysed American reality shows such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Hills to get her accent correct.

"I am used to really having to stick to my lines. Because people really know them by heart," she said. "So it was lovely to ad-lib or improvise. It was really special.

"I had to get the accent down, the dialect. That took a lot of time."
