Pitbull says Epic reminds him of his favourite childhood movies.

The rapper has lent his voice to Bufo the frog in the family adventure, which tells the story of a hidden magical world where a battle between the forces of good and evil is taking place.

Starring alongside the likes of Beyoncé Knowles, Steven Tyler and Amanda Seyfried, the musician revealed his childhood memories convinced him to accept the part rather than the star-studded cast.

"When I first started getting involved with the project, I didn’t know all the people that were going to be involved. So, to be in the same project with Beyoncé Knowles, Steven Tyler and Colin Farrell is definitely a blessing. But, the reason I got involved was that it reminded me of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids-meets-Avatar, and I loved Honey, I Shrunk the Kids when I was a little kid,” he told Collider.

“So, it was easy for me. That’s how I made the choice. When I read through it, I said, ‘Yeah, this definitely feels familiar. That was successful. OK, simplicity is the key to success. Let’s do it!’"

Pitbull - real name Armando Pérez - was also excited about picking up some acting skills while filming the movie.

However, the Give Me Everything star felt safer recording his parts in a studio rather than on a traditional set.

Watching the fruits of his labour in the finished movie, the rapper was overcome by his feelings.

“I never dreamed that I would be in animation. I definitely respected it, my whole life. I grew up on some great cartoons, at the time. It was a lot of fun. I learned a lot, in the process,” he said.

“But, it was also a safe haven, since I’m used to being in the booth and recording. I wanted to learn a little bit about how to use voice and emotion and put it all together. The beauty of it was to be able to watch it, once it did come together. It made me feel like a little kid, all over again. It created a lot of emotion.”
