Emma Thompson thinks movies should be made “to entertain everybody”.

The 54-year-old actress stars in British comedy The Love Punch opposite Pierce Brosnan.

Many actors in the cast are older than those in a typical blockbuster, but Emma doesn’t think young people should rule out seeing the film due to the ensemble’s age range.

“I don't see where age has to come into it - it's been made to entertain everybody in the groups that we're supposed to be in, which is a selection of ages,” she revealed to BBC Radio 4 programme Front Row.

"This film isn't for older people, that would be a tragic mistake to indicate that we were making this for older people.

"What I find really fantastic about it is that it's young people who seem to enjoy it just as much, if not more."

Emma believes compartmentalising audiences is a dangerous practice that is rampant in Hollywood today.

The thespian is convinced a different approach to film marketing needs to be adopted.

"The fact is that the film industry has tried to separate us into groups, and it's a mistake culturally, artistically and economically,” she said.

Emma has vocalised her sentiments on the way Hollywood is run before.

The Oscar-winning actress spoke at the British Academy of Film and Television's A Life in Pictures series in London last year.

And during her speech she lamented on the impact modern celebrity status has had on show business.

"The star system is not a good system. It's all hierarchical. I think that's just revolting. It is revolting for actors to become grand," she said, according to Variety.
