Shane Black will direct a reboot of Predator.

The 1986 action film is being revisited by 20th Century Fox. Shane will write the treatment for the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, script duties will then be handled by Fred Dekker, who co-wrote The Monster Squad with Shane in 1987. Shane will oversee the writing for the new Predator film and direct.

The star is the screenwriter behind the Lethal Weapon franchise and the writer-director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3.

Shane was actually offered the chance to polish the script for the original Predator film while it was in pre-production; however, the screenwriter turned down the opportunity twice. He was eventually asked to appear in the film and has a minor role in the movie. It is thought that the role was meant to entice him into taking a look at the script.

John Davis, who was one of the original film’s producers alongside Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, will also return to work on the new project.

The 1987 Predator starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura. The film was directed by John McTiernan.

A sequel to the original film, tilted Predator 2, was released in 1990 and starred Danny Glover, Gary Busey and Kevin Peter Hall. Another instalment to the series was released in 2010, Predators. AVP: Alien vs. Predator was released in 2004 and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was released in 2007.
