Brooke Shields views her mother as neither “a villain or a victim”.

The 49-year-old actress’ early career was managed by her mom, Teri.

At the age of 12 Brooke was cast as a prostitute in 1978 film Pretty Baby and she posed in a series of Calvin Klein ads at 14 years old, deals brokered by her mother that many members of the public found controversial.

Now the actress is writing a book about Teri which will reveal the true nature of their relationship to the world.

“The reason I wanted to write the book is not to say: ‘You didn’t understand: She was the best mother in the world,’” Brooke told Social Life magazine. “I’m not holding her up on a pedestal, nor am I painting her as a villain or a victim.”

Brooke doesn’t think her mother deserves the amount of criticism she’s received.

“You know what’s so funny about a lot of the things that they were pushing back on her for' Those things were the least of my worries. I was exploited' I was in school full time…Seriously, the opportunities I had…I wasn’t worried about what they were saying,” she explained. “We would go to Studio 54 together, but I would be home by 11.”

The book doesn’t yet have a title and a publication date remains to be confirmed.

Teri passed away from a dementia related illness at the age of 79 in 2012.

Brooke is married to writer-and-producer Chris Henchy and the couple share two young daughters together.
