Samuel Jackson: It’s not about awards

Samuel L. Jackson says “everything’s not about winning the Academy Award”.

The 65-year-old has appeared in over 100 productions and is well-known for his work in Unbreakable, Shaft, The Incredibles, Snakes on a Plane and Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 Pulp Fiction. His performance in Pulp Fiction earned him an Academy Awards nomination for best supporting actor. However, winning is not the most important thing to the star.

“It makes us feel like we’ve done something that gets them excited, that makes us feel like, OK, everything’s not about winning the Academy Award,” Samuel talked to MTV News about the attention high-profile San Diego Comic-Con films receive.

“We’re entertainers, and these are the people that are actually the lifeblood of the movie business, these are the guys that fill up the theatres on Saturday and Friday night and make sure that those box office(s) ring and that we’re able to do a sequel.”

Samuel is no stranger to high grossing films and sequels, having been a part of the Star Wars franchise. The actor has also landed numerous roles as an action hero.

“I’m a huge action film fan and I read comics and I’m an anime fan, I’m a manga fan,” he explained. “And I know what these people feel like being here, being able to dress up and getting as close as they can to us.”

The Oscar-nominated actor attended the San Diego Comic-Con to promote Kingsman: The Secret Service, which is a comic-book adaption helmed by X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn. The film also stars Colin Firth, Sophie Cookson, Taron Egerton and Sofia Boutella and has an October 24 release date.

Samuel will also return to his role as Nick Fury in the Avengers franchise in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits theatres in 2015.
