Clooney ‘gets marriage licence’

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin have supposedly posted their wedding banns.

The Hollywood heartthrob proposed to his British girlfriend in April and it seems the pair are preparing to walk down the aisle soon.

According to UK newspaper The Mirror, George and Amal stopped by the Chelsea Register Office in London two weeks ago to post their wedding banns.

The couple reportedly paid the customary £35 fee before they met with the Superintendent Registrar at Chelsea Town Hall to sign official documents.

“They may be a celebrity couple, but they have to sign the same documents as everybody else,” a source detailed.

In the UK, people planning to get married must have their marital intent posted in wedding banns for at least 16 days before they’re legally allowed to tie the knot. Wedding banns are presented on a piece of paper behind a glass cover outside the town hall. The process is similar to American marriage licensing protocol, as in many states a licence must be obtained several days ahead in order to legitimise the marriage.

It is believed George, 53, and Amal, 36, are hosting their nuptials in Lake Como, Italy later on this year, where the actor owns a home.

Us Weekly previous reported George and Amal's mother Baria jetted out to the wedding location in June in order to establish laws preventing fans and paparazzi getting close to his residence on the big day.

According to the magazine, George had the laws declared on Saturday June 21 and they will last until September 30. The temporary legislation will deter people from stopping on both the road and near the water in front of mansion, Villa Oleandra, all hours of the day leading up to the ceremony.
