Katie Holmes thinks everyone experiences professional “dry spells” at some point.

The 35-year-old actress married Tom Cruise in 2006 but their union ended in divorce two years ago.

Katie has reemerged on the acting scene in a big way since becoming a single woman, but she doesn’t think marriage has anything to do with her comeback.

"It's the life of an actor. We don't really have a lot of choice in the matter. You have dry spells, and then you have times when there is a lot of opportunity," she shared in an interview with Dujour magazine.

Katie, who shares eight-year-old daughter Suri with Tom, shot to fame in 1998 when her US TV show Dawson’s Creek debuted.

At the time she was just 20 years old, but even at such a young age the star knew to remain humble despite her fame.

"Even early on, when I was a young actor and all of a sudden people knew who I was, my dad told me, 'Don't let that change how you live your life.' I've always sort of approached it that way,” she shared. “You have to continue to do the things you want to do and not let outside forces dictate.”

Katie admitted being famous can sometimes be challenging.

But she does her best to stay positive at all times.

"I just try to live in a way that makes me happy," Katie said. "There's definitely an awareness of the fact that people have camera phones, and that your privacy is sometimes invaded, but that's something that I think everyone has had to adjust to."
The actress is currently promoting her new sci-fi film The Giver, which also stars Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep.
