Katie Holmes is “excited and honoured” to helm All We Had.

The 35-year-old Dawson’s Creek actress will be making her directorial debut on the film, which is based on the novel written by Annie Weatherwax.

Katie is producing the film with Jane Rosenthal while The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone is adapting the screenplay from the book, which was published by Scribner in August.

“I am very excited and honoured to be collaborating with Jane and Josh on this project and look so forward to bringing Annie’s incredible characters to the screen,” Katie said in a statement released to Deadline.

All We Had centres on a mother and daughter who are living on the brink of poverty. Despite their circumstances, the duo find an unlikely home in a quirky small town.

Katie optioned the book in July, ahead of its official publication. All We Had is writer Annie’s first book, as she is a full time artist and sculptor.

Katie also has a lot of acting projects on the go at this time and she is currently filming director Simon Curtis’ forthcoming drama, Woman in Gold. The feature, which also stars Ryan Reynolds, follows an octogenarian Jewish refugee as she fights the government to recover artwork that she feels rightfully belongs to her family.

The actress will next be seen in Mania Days, a romance about two manic depressives who begin their intense love affair while locked away in a psychiatric hospital.

Woman in Gold will be released in 2015 and Mania Days reaches theatres later on this year.
