Diane Keaton thinks the most awful men are the "sexiest".

In her latest film, And So It Goes, the 68-year-old actress plays Leah, who falls in love with her grumpy and egotistical neighbour Oren.

While some might question what she sees in the divorced realtor, Diane can understand why her character is so smitten.

"Right from the start Leah is interested in Oren," she explained to daserste.de.

"It's happened to all of us: the most awful men, the ones who are the complete opposite of us, are who we find the sexiest. They have a certain something.

"Meeting someone who's just like us - that's not a challenge, it's not exciting, it's not a turn-on. Right?"

The star has had several high-profile relationships but never married. She dated Woody Allen in the '70s and they remained good friends after the split.

She also dated Warren Beatty briefly around the time they both appeared in 1981 film Reds and later romanced Al Pacino.

Diana has previously slammed the "old maid myth" and maintains she's perfectly happy without a ring on her finger.

In light of And So It Goes, she addressed finding love later on in life.

"If you fall in love aged 65, you've already had a lot of experiences," she reasoned. "You're more tired, no longer as sure of yourself. You're not entirely sure if you need all that in your life again.

"At that point in life, you've already experienced so much loss. And you know too much about what it really means to live as a couple."
