Kerry Washington thinks sex scenes are “always awkward”.
The gorgeous actress portrays political crisis management expert Olivia Pope in hit TV show Scandal.
Olivia’s character is often seen fornicating with President Fitzgerald Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn, on the programme, and the star confesses filming coitus on set with her castmate is a strange experience.
"Sex scenes are always awkward,” she told Allure magazine in a cover interview.
"They're hard to do. You're doing things that you're supposed to do with only certain people in your life. Because this is not your real partner in life, doing that is awkward. And then doing it in a room full of people is awkward.”
Kerry is mother to six-month-old daughter Isabelle, who she shares with husband Nnamdi Asomugha.
Her co-star Tony is also married, and Kerry honours his wife Jane Musky so much, the actress refuses to cross really sensitive boundaries on-screen.
"Particularly with a show like ours, where people are so invested in the chemistry, you just learn to be careful, because people's real relationships in life are important," she explained. "I so respect and admire his wife and him and their family, and he feels the same way about mine. And so you learn to be careful about how you say things."
In a behind the scenes interview for ET Online, Kerry explained why she felt empowered by going makeup free during the Allure shoot.
“I feel like there's so much wonderful goodness in my life both professionally and personally. would be nice to feel like the shoot was a peek into the real me,” she gushed.
"My mother is a huge beauty inspiration for me. She's always emphasised inner beauty being equally, if not more important than outer beauty."
