Jerry Seinfeld apparently turned down an offer to sample vintage wine because he was working.

The 60-year-old comedy veteran has worked hard to cultivate a successful career with his sitcom, Seinfeld, ruling the silver screen from 1989 until 1998. And during a recent lunch break at a restaurant he proved work truly does come first when he reportedly declined an expensive alcoholic beverage.

Jerry was reportedly offered to try a vintage Opus One cabernet whilst dining at Old Homestead Steakhouse in New York City, American publication Page Six claims, but politely said no.

“Love to, but I’m working,” the funnyman apparently told the restaurant’s owner Greg Sherry, who had asked him to sample and comment on the vintage drink.

Jerry made it clear that his rejection was not due to rudeness but rather his work ethic. He did, however, lament that he could not indulge in the offer.

“I wish I had the day off like you guys,” he reportedly went on in good humour.

The publication’s source added that Jerry was lunching on a 24oz ribeye steak at the time, and he was no doubt drinking water.

Even though his name speaks for itself in the show business world, Jerry has recently gone ahead and created a Facebook account to ensure his word is heard. On October 23, he took to Facebook to welcome himself to the community.

“In case you didn’t notice, I officially joined Facebook and Instagram this morning,” he wrote. “We’ll still bring you all of the updates on [new online series] ‘Comedians in Cars getting Coffee,’ but as of today, this is my page, and anything can happen.”
