Emily Blunt thinks it's naïve to believe that acting is everything.

The British actress is riding high in life right now; as well as a successful Hollywood career she's enjoying family life with husband John Krasinski and their daughter Hazel, who was born in February.

Because of her strong family unit, Emily doesn't place all of her focus on work.

"It's an extraordinary job and it’s not one that I can sh*t on, really, but it is a precarious one, so it is naïve to think of it as the be-all and end-all,” Emily reasoned to The Edit.

Her latest film role is as The Baker's Wife in Disney musical Into the Woods. The movie boasts an all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine. Working with Meryl again was a dream come true for Emily, made even sweeter when the legend - who she previously teamed up with for 2006's The Devil Wears Prada - praised Emily's acting abilities.

“I still die [over that compliment]. It was a little bit mind-blowing. I think my hair blew back, actually, when I read it. You do a little dance and then you realise you’ve got to try and live up to it!” Emily laughed.

However, it's not all sweetness and light when it comes to making movies.

The 31-year-old is all too aware of the pitfalls of the industry and says no actor is immune to getting too involved with a project.

“This can be an industry that thrills and tortures people at the same time. And it depends on who you are as to what extreme that goes to. It’s such a loss that Phil [Seymour Hoffman] and Robin [Williams] aren’t here anymore," she sighed.

"I think it is a job that can be very affecting. For me, my only experience I can speak of was in Sicario, with Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin. I remember doing one scene and I couldn’t sleep for four days after it. I was very affected by it and I’m a pretty even-keeled person, so I think if you aren’t naturally that way, this job can have a very big impact on you.”
