Mindy Kaling is obsessed with the film You’ve Got Mail.

The actress and comedienne gives her viewers weekly romantic scenarios to digest in her hit TV show The Mindy Project.

And she admits that her love of rom-com’s has rubbed off on her programme, with one in particular getting a special acknowledgement.

“The name of the bar that our characters go to is called Kathleen Kelly's,” she told E! Online referring to the 1998 film You’ve Got Mail and Meg Ryan’s character. “She was so stylish in that really understated hot Manhattan librarian way.”

When asked if she thought the character was still in love with on-screen partner Joe Fox, played by Tom Hanks, the 35-year-old was adamant that they would be. The star quickly moved on to another famous romance between the two actors, in the 1993 movie, Sleepless in Seattle. Again, she thinks the characters would still be loved up, but for different reasons than their subsequent alter egos.

“In You've Got Mail, they stay together because the two of them are a little bit older and I think that they had been through these relationships that were bad…they had to get that out of the way, but that they were ready,” she mused. “They were going to stay together. In Sleepless, that movie is interesting because they're so pure. He's a widower with the world's cutest son; she's got the heart of an angel and is so sweet...I think they wouldn't break up because they're so good.”

However one couple that Mindy doesn’t think will have stood the test of time is Pretty Woman’s Vivian and Edward, played by Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Despite the film celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Mindy thinks the dynamics between the hooker with a heart and businessman wouldn’t last.

“There's no way. That relationship is really not…like, one Thanksgiving dinner at Richard Gere's house and that's done,” she said. “That's a relationship that burns brightly but doesn't last.”
