Al Pacino hopes he'll be allowed to keep the "rock 'n' roll" jackets from the Danny Collins set.

The actor takes on the lead role in the film about an ageing musician who wants to change his life upon discovering an old letter from John Lennon.

It meant the 75-year-old got to rock up his style a little and he's even discovered new pieces he'd like to add to his own wardrobe.

"Whenever I do a movie I let each department do their thing," he explained to Empire magazine.

"There's a couple of jackets I'm either going to buy or ask them to donate to me; they're pretty rock 'n' roll. You think I could walk off the set looking like this?"

It's not just the look he had to adopt - Al also had to give singing a go. Luckily he had experts on hand to talk him through it.

"I got help from professional singers and musicians," he recalled. "When I did children's theatre I sang: I was in musicals at school. I'd say my singing is adequate - if I'm alone. It's when I get in front of other people things change a little bit."

In real life, Al is also a huge fan of Lennon and The Beatles' music. He's even had a chance encounter with the late musician.

"We passed on the street. We just nodded and smiled at each other. It was a moment of mutual recognition," he smiled.
