Jon Favreau’s favourite Western is Seven Samurai because he “sees something new in it” with every viewing.

The 44-year-old actor-and-moviemaker is currently promoting sci-fi Western thriller Cowboys & Aliens, which is his latest directorial offering and tells the tale of extra terrestrials attempting to take over the Wild West region in 1873.

Jon has been vocal about how important it was for him to revive the cowboy genre, and has reflected on his favourite Western of all time. The star opted for 1954 adventure movie Seven Samurai, which recounts a poor village being attacked by bandits.

“I guess you’d call it Western - Seven Samurai,” he told Cover Media.

“It’s one of those films; every time you watch it you see something new in it.”

Jon, whose previous directing credits include comedies such as Elf and action pictures Iron Man and Iron Man 2, has developed his passion for cowboy films over the years. The multi-talented star’s admiration for the genre blossomed as he became more experienced.

“As you learn more about directing you start to appreciate Westerns more,” he smiled.
