David Arquette wants to mix “comedy and tragedy” during his time on Dancing with the Stars.

The actor is one of the celebrities competing on the upcoming series of the television show.

David is renowned for his mischievous behaviour, and completed a stint in rehab for alcohol and depression issues earlier this year.

Despite his hyper exterior, David’s professional dance partner Kym Johnson insists the star is ready to up the ante.

“Well no, that’s what people might think,” Kym said when asked how she’s going to get David to work because he’s renowned for playing up. “But it’s really the opposite. He’s very serious and wants to do really well.”

“I’m a professional entertainer in case you didn’t notice. 22 years of professional experience. Fourth generation entertainer,” David jokingly continued in an interview with ET Online. “And I take my business seriously. I wanna make people laugh and cry. Comedy and tragedy.”

David revealed his and Kym’s original team name. The 40-year-old star joked about having something a little bit more glitzy when it came to their collaboration.

“You see, our team is Team Good Times. There was uproar in the Dancing with the Stars fan base because,” David explained, before Kym added, “Well everyone mentions their names together and we found that a little challenging.

“We did yeah,” David continued. “Like Kym and David, we were thinking like DAKJ or DJAK or D Diddy and K-Jo!”

Other stars competing on the programme include Chaz Bono, who underwent gender reassignment surgery to become a man last year.

The Hills star Kristin Cavallari, talk show host Ricki Lake, singer/actress Chynna Philips and George Clooney’s ex-girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis will also be competing.

The group is rounded out with Carson Kressley, Nancy Grace, J.R. Martinez and Hope Solo.

The thirteenth series of Dancing with the Stars premieres on September 19.
