Let me begin by saying that the Diceman has not mellowed with age. So If you're expecting to see a watered down version of his show - think again. He is crude, rude, and politically incorrect, but that's exactly what the fans expect.
Opening to a packed house at The Palms in Melbourne in biker attire, Andrew Dice Clay whipped the testosterone and beer-filled audience into a frenzy and the laughs kept coming. The Adventure of Ford Fairlane star won't be diving into the world of politics or global warming anytime soon; his show is purely about sex and the 'new' generation of women.
I overheard some women (the few that were there) complaining about the show's content and how offensive it was. All I can say to that is "buyer beware". You know what you're walking into with ADC. He will insult and demean women in one fell swoop, and although I'm a woman who understands and respects the complexities of women's rights, I couldn't help but laugh. I get that it's a joke! That's it! If it were a random guy on the street saying the same things, I'd be annoyed and wouldn't hesitate to put him in his place, but it's ADC and I expected no less. Even Diceman asked a woman in the audience who look horrified, "Did you think you were going to Seinfeld?"
In anticipation guys kept shouting out "Hickory Dickory Dock" or 'Nursery Rhymes". At one point ADC berated a guy by saying, "Hey arse face, don't you think I know my own routine?" The guy in question proudly stood up in honour as the insult slid off his back. It was then that ADC went into his nursery rhymes routine and I would have to estimate that at least 50 percent of the guys in the audience knew the lines verbatim; shouting them out in unison. It was unbelievable as I’m sure some of these guys would be hard pressed to remember their girlfriend's birthday or mother's maiden name.
Overall, a fun night and one I won’t forget anytime soon - my only recommendation is leave your mother and grandmother at home, unless they like X-rated comedy.
