A group of friends decide to spend some time on a beautiful Greek island. They have been working hard over the winter months and summer is a time for them to relax and chill out. The only issue is that it seems no noe else is on the island, well except for a man eating creature that was in from the sea. Sadly this would have been okay, if not for their boat they came in on breaking free from its mooring. Now they have to try to kill the unkillable, escape without a boat and stay alive.

The 'video nasties' list of the early 80s changed many things during the period that they were policed and prosecuted. Not only did they change the lives of many in this country, introducing them to films that were far more visually gore drenched or difficult in content. Some took on the ideas of the previous film and altered the logic to fit into a comment of sex, violence or the exploration and destruction of South america. Others had no other ambition then to make the audience gasp and gawk at the next set piece of blood and grimness galore! Many made massive profits and for some films they were made as fodder for a market eager for supply. Many of the films on the list were also made quickly and with little or no budget. So became the blockbuster of the home entertainment world. They were very often designed to be a version of a popular version. That is to say they wanted to replicate the success of other succesful films of the period and make more money. Often they did this by 'outgunning' or should I say 'outgoring' the previous film and their opponents.

Now to be bold I have to say that this film is a knock about horror film. It has the simple and very direct task and it does this well enough. We have a little bit of motivation, some great scenes of horror and of a Greek island. the film however really lives or dies on being a nasty and coming from the period of such films. Joe D'Amato is a director that was well know for excess and this is his pinnacle. He is also well known for being the most prolific and hard working film maker from Italy and had made films in many, if not all Italian genres. Which means his films are ramshackle and fall in places due to being confused. This film will not go down as his best work but will be remembered for its very horrific set piece scene that makes a mockery of the term 'taking baby out for dinner'. This film has remained cut for many years after its release and then sometime after its re-release. Sliced versions have been available in the UK market but until this one, nothing uncut and containing the whole horror of the beast and his shuffle. We have now the ability to see the version that pre cert fans call 'The beast complete'.
