Health and Lifestyle television program Downsize Me! hit the airwaves in 2005 and although the show wound up after four seasons, it is still running on Chanel 7 TWO in Australia and in over 135 countries. Dr Damian Kristof was the show’s resident diet expert, assisting participants to adopt a healthier attitude to diet and lifestyle alongside personal trainer Lee-Anne Ward. “Downsize Me! was a show that was conceived from the ground up; it wasn’t based on any other format. We decided we wanted to build a show around educating people how to be healthy and fit, which we felt in New Zealand people were lacking,” says Dr Kristof.
Today, Dr Damian Kristof is one of the co-founders of The Wellness Guys, in conjunction with wellness experts and chiropractors Dr Laurence Tham, and Dr Brett Hill. Each week the trio do a live podcast covering a variety of health and wellness issues from eating right to managing stress. As well as the weekly podcast, The Wellness Guys recently held a Wellness Summit in Melbourne which brought together innovators in the health industry and armed participants with knowledge to help them put better lifestyle choices into practice.
One of the clear messages of the summit was the need for individuals to be the drivers of change in their own lives and look beyond what was taught in school. By making a conscious mindset change to lead a healthy lifestyle is the key to success.
The revival of TV show Downsize Me! would be a valuable tool in assisting viewers to achieve their goals by teaching them the importance of healthy eating and exercise, as well as the all important mindset shift. “What was interesting was that the people who got the mindset, you could see the click at about the four week point in the TV show…..those people retained the weight loss and continued to move with that journey,” expressed the charismatic Dr Kristof.
Downsize Me! transformed the lives of many partakers over an 8-week period and unlike many other dieting fad TV shows, it followed up on each person’s progression. “Id love to do Downsize Me! again,” says Kristof. “It’s definitely a pet of mine and if we could do it in Australia it would be terrific.” Fingers crossed Dr Kristof is granted his wish.
