Who needs SciFi movies like Day Of The Triffids or Invasion Of The Body Snatchers when you can marvel at the quirky and out-of-this-world B-movie antics that Killer Klowns From Outer Space has to offer? Yep, the circus has come to town (or has landed, shall we say) and is planning on exterminating the Earth’s population by turning hapless Earthlings into… Candy floss, yep!

Written, produced and directed by the SciFi and horror-loving Chiodo Brothers, Killer Klowns From Outer Space is about the dumbest yet at the same time most brilliantly trashy flick you could ever hope to see. In fact, the whole thing – beginning to end – is like a vast acid trip. Get this: the alien space ship is shaped like a circus tent, whilst the spaceship’s interior is dipped in multi-coloured props that resemble more the candy-shaped surprises of a sweet shop rather than out-of-this world technology.

Set in small-town America (where else) of the 1980’s, though it could just as well be the 50’s or 60’s, cavorting young love birds Debbie Stone (Suzanne Snyder) and Mike Tobacco (Grant Cramer) witness what they believe to be a comet crashing down nearby. Curious, they make their way through the forest to investigate, only to be confronted by a strangely glowing circus tent. In fact, farmer Gene Green (Royal Dano) and his beloved canine have already made the acquaintance of the tent’s inhabitants… albeit with disastrous consequences… zap zap zap!

Soon after, Debbie and Mike make asses of themselves trying to tell disbelieving local sheriff Curtis Mooney (John Vernon) that all bizarre looking clowns are on the loose, set on depopulating the community of Crescent Grove. Naturally, no sheriff in his right mind would listen to such nonsense – if only he had! If you think this sounds weird, let me tell you it gets a whole lot weirder still! Abducted human victims cocooned in candyfloss are then ‘liquidized’ and served up as cocktails for the alien klowns (don’t ask me why Klowns is spelled with a K). Perhaps that’s how they spell it on the planet where the Chiodo Brothers come from… However, as far as the ‘Klowns’ make up is concerned: now that’s what I would call a killer Halloween outfit!

So hop aboard the ‘nightmare merry-go-round’ and have the trip of a lifetime with this Special Edition of a true cult classic! If only leading actor John Vernon could have been in more movies like this, ho-hum!
