This animated follow up to the wizard of Oz finds Dorothy back in Kansas after the red shoes transported her back .

All is not well at home, her aunt and uncle are being tricked into giving up their supposedly unsafe house and signing it over to a man who claims to work for the government.

Meanwhile, in the land of Oz things are even worse! It turns out that the wicked witch she finished off has a very messed up brother. Treated as a slave by his sister when they were growing up, he was dressed up as a jester for her entertainment. She cast a spell that made him unable to remove the costume and then was forever after known as the Jester. With his sister out of the way he is now ruling Oz and is turning his opposers into puppets.

Scarecrow summons Dorothy back via rainbow transportation to help save the day again. The story follows Dorothy trying to get back to Emerald City to rescue her old pals scarecrow, tin man and lion.

She is helped along the way by 3 new characters, Wisely the owl, a china princess from Dainty China county and a marshmallow soldier.

With a hurried beginning and an equally unsatisfactory ending it’s a forgettable film with no memorable moments. The baddie never seems bad enough, the princess is irritating and the songs grate. The side kicks, so wonderful in the original film, feature very little in this film by comparison.

Younger kids may enjoy it but unlike its predecessor, it won’t stand the test of time.

It’s the yellow brick road to nowhere!
