Kickstarter is a fine and mysterious beast. Offering a wide range of indie titles that integrate dynamic elements of gameplay and interesting concepts compared to most AAA games. One game to emerge from the crowds of Kickstarter takes on an idea that has been rarely explored until now. The Zombie apocalypse has taken form once again but in a new light.

Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville is a top down strategy and survival simulation, where players are tasked to rebuild society and defend the remains of mankind from hordes of flesh eating zombies. Players will create their own unique character, managing their appearance, skills, and attributes with the latter two making an impact on the game ahead. Becoming the leader of a small community, it’s up to you to ensure survival through building shelter, gathering food and organising parties to take on menacing zombie hoards.

Rebuild 3 has a simple design, a game that requires a nurturing touch and one that rewards highly for good work. Using your own skills and observations to progress your community and protect it from danger. You can build apartments from shelter, churches and other centres to allow peace of mind and defensive points that repel enemy attacks. There is a wide range of tactical and brainteasing tasks that focus a great deal of tension even on the wittiest strategist. Rebuild has a huge variation of actions and events that dynamically change the game world, altering progression to many paths. There is a great immersive factor with the immense amount of choice at hand. With these actions happening throughout, the game has an organic nature to it that’s unpredictable and brutal. It might be a little too active for new players and at times it’s quite easy to lose your bearings as the right help is not always given.

Yet there are a few things that help in reclaiming your bearings, such as being able to pause time and plan out your next manoeuvres. The interface is easy to navigate and learning the basics is a simple and quick task when the game does help out. There are ranges of mechanics that offer an engaging RTS experience and a vast array of tutorials that help you on your journey through rebuilding civilisation.

As the game progresses, new and innovated concepts and mechanics are introduced, that add further depth to the game and more game-play elements to engage with. This delivers an engrossing and satisfying level of game time that’ll appease any survivalist.
Rebuild may not be a highly original idea with the likes of State of Decay being released some time ago. But this is a highly engaging and thought provoking simulation that has great levels of immersion thanks to it dynamic system of choice and intense strategy gameplay.
