‘Steve McQueen – A Tribute to the King Of Cool’ does exactly what it says on the tin. It is a sumptuous hardback photo/passage book by acclaimed author Marshall Terrill, offering tributes and insights from those who knew him best: family, former friends and showbiz folk, co-stars and simply just adoring fans. Lavishly illustrated with countless photographs and a foreword by Barbara McQueen (Steve’s widow), an introduction by Mark Osborne as well as the Steve McQueen family tree, the book displays the many sides (and faces) of a true icon.
Over a whopping 380 pages the reader can indulge in tributes from a motley crew as diverse as retired race driver Sir Stirling Moss, actors Martin Landau, Karl Malden, Jaqueline Bisset, Faye Dunaway, Lee Majors and Alec Baldwin, directors Peter Yates and Robert Wise, and Gene Simmons (yes, that’s KISS Simmons). And that’s just a few! Even Dave Lentz, founder of BlobFest, shares his enthusiasm for the actor. For those not familiar with ‘BlobFest’, it is an annual bash held in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, celebrating the 1958 movie The Blob (in which McQueen had his first starring role).

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Steve McQueen's death on November 7th and the book release of ‘Steve McQueen: A Tribute to the King of Cool’, Barbara McQueen and Steve McQueen’s official biographer, Marshall Terrill, will attend a very special exhibition and book signing between 6pm and 9pm at London’s Movie Poster Art Gallery on Thursday, November 4th.
The gallery is at 1 Colville Place, London W1T 2BG.

The photo exhibition will include a selection of Barbara McQueen’s personal images of Steve, along with a large selection of vintage original McQueen film posters and stills, including an extremely rare 6ft U.S Original film poster for the McQueen classic Bullitt, and the highly collectable original poster for The Great Escape. Also on display will be rarely seen original stills and photographs from McQueen’s greatest film roles, including Papillon, Thomas Crown Affair and The Cincinnati Kid.
An exciting edition to the evening will be an original Triumph Bonneville, supplied to Johnson Motors in Pasadena, California. The Triumph marque has a storied connection with McQueen, especially through his participation in the 1964 ISTD as a member of the American team.

(Note: As part of the 30th anniversary of Steve McQueen’s death on November 7th, the British Lung Foundation (www.lunguk.org) is reminding people to be aware of the dangers of asbestos after Steve tragically lost his life to Mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer, at only 50 years old.)
