January Jones feels “lucky” to have become a mother at the right time in her life.
The 34-year-old actress has a six-month-old son Xander, and so far refused to reveal the identity of his father. Although being a single mother can be tough, January feels blessed to have welcomed her bundle of joy into the world.
“I am at the right age, the right time in my life, where having him is just so much fun,” she told British magazine Grazia. “I feel very lucky, I think being a mother is something I was meant to do.”
The American star portrays Betty Francis on TV show Mad Men, the highly-anticipated fifth season of which hit US screens on Sunday.
January told writers on the programme she was expecting and has nothing but praise for the way creator Matthew Weiner dealt with the news.
“I called Matthew when I knew they were about to go into the writers’ room, to tell him I was pregnant,” she recalled. “But I wasn’t sure whether they would write around it or include it... He works really well with a challenge. My storyline is really beautiful.”
The whole Mad Men team worked hard to ensure January felt comfortable at work, both when she was expecting and after Xander had arrived.
She was able to bring him to work with her and spend time with him on set.
“I was lucky to have a job where I can bring him to work, so I was still able to nurse him, and I could run over to see him and squeeze him when I missed him, which was often. I can’t imagine being away from him,” she said.
January recently admitted she used her pregnancy hormones to her advantage when playing Betty. She also shocked fans by admitting she has been eating her own placenta because it is rich in vitamins.
