(Cover) - EN Movies - Penélope Cruz learnt to act by pretending she was studying at her mother’s beauty salon.
The Spanish star was fascinated by the way her mother would transform other women when she was growing up. She spent as much time in her beauty parlour as possible – which meant she had to be cunning.
“My mother had a beauty salon and I grow up surrounded by women. I spent every afternoon there. I took my maths book and I put it in front of my face,” she recalled to Myself magazine. “I pretended to study. But I was observing everything and listening to what people were saying. In these moments I learnt to act. Every woman was playing a different character.”
Penélope plays a prostitute in the movie To Rome with Love. Her character is called Anna and Penélope was surprised by how much she enjoyed the role.
“I love Anna. She is positive, radiant and she does her job with reliability and professionalism. She believes that her job is useful for the society and she thinks that she is doing a good thing. In its own way she fulfils herself and I tried to enact her point of view as best I could,” she said.
