Joel Edgerton likes to "find [himself]" in every character he plays.

The actor portrays Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby.

Joel admits he never gets lost when portraying an on-screen role, but rather he pinpoints similar traits in both himself and his character.

"Without trying to sound ridiculously oddball about it, it is trying to find yourself in the character and where that meets in the middle some way so that it feels seamless," he revealed in an interview with moviehole.net.

Co-star Isla Fisher plays Myrtle Wilson in the hotly-anticipated big screen revival. The actress says she never immerses herself so deeply into a role.

"I think, no not really, at least I don't," she added, when asked if she's ever gotten "lost" in a film character.

"I'm not a method actor. I work from the outside in rather than the inside out. I never get lost. I think sometimes it's easier to feel those feelings that your character feels."

Isla was also asked about what particular film moment, if any, she would re-live. The actress stars in upcoming caper film directed by Louis Leterrier, which also stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson and Morgan Freeman.

Isla had such fun working on the movie, she would do it all over again if she could.

"I just shot a movie called Now You See Me, and it was just a really good connection of people and I just really loved the guys on that movies and I had a really good time," she smiled.

Joel added that even though the moment is "burnt into [his] brain" he'd re-live "rolling up to the set of Star Wars".

The 38-year-old starred in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
