Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves maintain a happy marriage by remembering they "came before the kids".

The pair raise three children together; Levi, four, daughter Vida, three, and second son Livingston, four months.

Camila admits their family life can get a little hectic at times, but she and Matthew always find time to enjoy each other's company alone.

"The main thing to always remember - and I think it's important - you and your partner came first before the kids," she explained in an interview with US Weekly. "So even if it's taking a night here or a day there or a weekend, it's just very important to do."

Camila added that newest family addition Livingston is doing "great."

"He's a big baby and a happy baby. Thank God!" she smiled.

Camila also discussed Matthew's recent weight gain after losing nearly 40 pounds at the end of last year for his role in Dallas Buyer's Club.

The hunky actor - who plays an AIDS victim in the true-life drama - is famed for his impressive physique and model Camila is glad he is beefing back up.

"I'm very happy about that!" she exclaimed with a laugh. "It's for his job and it's a beautiful thing – the work is unbelievable. It's amazing work what he did, so I'm very proud of him. But a little meat on the bones is good!"
Camila has found ways to balance work and family life, which has become quite a novelty for her kids.

The star - who was shooting a campaign for Macy's - brought along Livingston and Vida.

"It's the first girls' trip that we're doing and we have the baby. She's been on set with me every day and really been a part of the whole process," she shared.

"She gives her opinions. She's helping me pick out the shoes. She's very cute."
