(Cover) - EN Movies - Esteemed comedy writer Jon Vitti will compose forthcoming animated film Angry Birds.
The Simpsons scribe is due to pen the entire screenplay for the feature, according to Collider.
Angry Birds is based on the eponymous video game that was developed by Finnish company Rovio Entertainment.
The mobile app was first released in 2009 and features birds being slung through sling shots at pigs. A number of adaptations including Winter Wonderham have been developed for millions of fans since its initial entry onto the market.
Jon has worked on numerous classic films and television series.
Some of his previous work includes writing for Saturday Night Live, King of the Hill, Da Ali G Show, The Simpsons, Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Office.
Jon won an Emmy while he served as King of the Hill’s writer-consulting producer.
Ice Age producer Catherine Winder will oversee Angry Birds’ production.
Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed is elated about creating the film with such respected personnel.
“I’m very excited that Jon and Catherine have joined us, bringing with them their vast expertise,” he said.
“I’m confident we are building the right team to deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans.”
Sony Pictures secured distribution rights to the movie version of Angry Birds, which is due for release in the summer of 2016.
