Susan Sarandon had to “hold on until a new dawn” to get through the pain of divorce.

The 66-year-old actress was married to actor Tim Robbins for 21 years until they terminated their union in 2009.

Susan confesses she had to employ quite a lot of effort to power through the devastating end of her marriage.

She even got a tattoo with letters ‘A’, ‘N’, ‘D’ inked on her wrist to commemorate this period in her life.

“You need your girlfriends. You need to take long walks until you’re exhausted and no longer crying out and you hold on until a new dawn,” she told British newspaper The Daily Mail.

“[My tattoo] stands for ‘A new dawn, a new day’.”

Susan is currently in a relationship with her 36-year-old business partner Jonathan Bricklin.

The pair both own New York City table-tennis bar SPiN.

Susan has no interest in walking down the aisle with the handsome young man.

“I can’t see the circumstances under which I would [marry again],” she mused.

Since they began seeing each other in 2010 Susan has never put an official title on her relationship with Jonathan.

The star always referred to their association as more of a “collaboration” than a love affair.

When asked by the newspaper whether or not she considers Jonathan a boyfriend she provided an unusual response.
“I do,” she giggled. “But I’m very superstitious about discussing those things.”
