Debra Messing feels guilty about her divorce.
The former Will & Grace star confessed to hoarding negative emotions about her split from Daniel Zelman after ten years.
She fears that her son’s life may not be as great as it could have been because her marriage to the writer did not last.
"Part of me will always contend with guilt that I wasn't able to give my son the fantasy that my parents were able to give me," she told American magazine More.
The actress explained that they tried very hard to hold it together for the sake of their nine-year-old offspring.
The 44-year-old feels terrible that they chose to go their separate ways eventually.
"We both wanted it to last forever, and it's a sad thing that it wasn't able to go the course," she continued.
The couple carried out their careers on opposite American coasts for three years as she filmed the now cancelled series Smash.
She hopes that one day her boy Roman will be able to understand that the break-up in June 2012 was for the best.
"We really tried," she commented. "We made sacrifices and compromises, and in the end we both realised that we like the day-to-day domestic life.
"Now we are co-parenting beautifully… We had Thanksgiving together. In my mind, we will be a nuclear family forever."
