Zack Snyder's vision of Superman is a "misfit".

The director is the mastermind behind Man of Steel, which stars Henry Cavill in the lead role.

Henry has admitted to being bullied and an outcast in the past and Zack can also relate to the more vulnerable character portrayed in his movie.

"You would be a misfit if you were that powerful," he explained to British newspaper The Guardian.

"It's a weird way to look at it, that everyone thinks, 'Oh, if I had these powers, my problems would be solved.' And then you see no, he doesn't fit in; the world is problematic for him. I think we can imagine... When I was young and felt like I didn't fit in - I didn't have super powers - but I could understand what he was feeling."

The movie mogul was keen to take a lot of the big questions surrounding the comic book legend and answer them for viewers.

He also held back on referring to Clark Kent directly as Superman, hoping to play around with earlier portrayals of the character.

"Why doesn't he kill' Why does he love humanity so much' All those things, he loves Lois [Lane, played by Amy Adams] - why' There was a question mark, in a way, on all these things for me. And the movie's job is to answer the questions of the man and the myth of Superman," he explained.

"We wanted the man before Superman first and then let him evolve into Superman. The origin of those things as well. Lois is the one that kind of coins [the term Superman], which I think is fun and interesting. It's a convention that we can knock around."
