Robert Pattinson found it hard to “keep a straight face” when filming an emergency birth scene in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.

The most recently released instalment in the fantasy franchise sees Robert’s character vampire Edward Cullen assisting human wife Bella, played by Kristen Stewart, during a painful labour. Bella eventually gives birth to half vampire baby Renesmee, but the bloody experience sees the new mother die because of her unusually powerful baby.

Robert found the gory scenes hard to take seriously at times.

"Sometimes it was hard to keep a straight face," co-star Taylor Lautner told E! online.

Taylor also struggled with filming the scenes at times. The actor plays werewolf Jacob Black and found reviving Kristen’s on-screen character hilarious.

"There was one point when she stops breathing and she's out of it and I have to give her CPR," Taylor laughed.

"She's just like…dead. Her lips are closed. And all of a sudden I've got to wrap my whole mouth around her lips and give her CPR.

“It ended up working but it was funny at moments."
