Actress Susan Sarandon "felt like a magician" when she handed out solar-powered lanterns to refugees in Greece.

The Thelma & Louise star is currently on the island of Lesbos, where she is visiting a refugee camp with officials at RYOT.org, a virtual reality news company, and as part of her visit, she handed out SolarPuffs, much to the delight of the children on site.
SolarPuffs are collapsible, folding, solar-powered lights which resemble paper bag lanterns and are lightweight, recyclable and easy to transport, making them vital in helping the camp mates get around in the dark.

"(They) are the most fun thing to bring to a dark tent on a dark night," she told People magazine. "I felt like a magician passing them out, the kids' faces lit up as bright as the lights."

The 69-year-old is planning to stay with the refugees at the Kara Tepe camp through Christmas, as she works with a number of different organisations to bring aid to those arriving on the island as part of the migrant crisis.

"(I hope) to listen and learn the stories of refugees who are fleeing from war and persecution," she previously told the outlet. "I also came to honour my grandparents, who were immigrants."

During her trip, she has been sharing picture diaries of the people she meets, and she told Greek news agency ANA-MPA she hopes to bring attention to "what is happening in this corner of the world".

"(The international community) must realise the size of the problem and understand it," she said. "These people should stop being 'somebody else' and must become the refugees that we must stand by."
