Animated film Kung Fu Panda 3 has beaten out the competition to top the North American box office for the second week in a row.

The sequel, which features the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, and Kate Hudson, earned $21 million (£14.5 million) in its second weekend (06-07Feb16) to remain at number one.

George Clooney's star-studded comedy Hail, Caesar! debuts in second place with $11.4 million (£7.9 million), while Leonardo DiCaprio's The Revenant follows at three with $7.1 million (£4.9 million).

Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to enjoy box office success, earning $6.9 million (£4.8 million) in its eighth weekend on release to come in fourth, ahead of The Choice, which closes out the top five.

The Star Wars sequel is now the only film to gross a total of $900 million in the U.S. and Canada, achieving the feat on Saturday (06Feb16). It's also crossed the $2 billion mark globally; only Titanic and Avatar have grossed more worldwide in movie history.

"This is a historic moment for Star Wars, for Lucasfilm, and for Disney, and all of us here are extremely gratified to be a part of this journey with fans around the world who have made Star Wars: The Force Awakens such an extraordinary success," read a statement from Disney chairman Alan Horn. "The film's achievements are truly astounding, and it's our great honour to relaunch this cinematic galaxy not only for all the devoted decades-long fans but for a new generation who will keep the Star Wars legacy alive for many years to come."
