Actress Amy Adams wanted to get married under a tree after watching Forrest Gump.

The Man of Steel star and artist Darren Le Gallo wed in May, 2015 after becoming engaged in 2008, and Amy explains it was important to her to set the ceremony under a tree, because she loved the significance of the nature nuptials in the classic film.

"I wanted to get married under a tree," she told Live! with Kelly and Michael on Friday (25Mar16). "That was important to me. I put my guests on hay bales and we all sat in a semi-circle and did the ceremony under a tree.

"I fell in love with the idea of a tree watching Forrest Gump. Jenny (character played by Robin Wright) and Forrest had their tree."

However, when the news first leaked about the wedding plans, fans feared Amy was so obsessed by the film the whole ceremony was Gump-esque: "Someone heard that and thought I had a Forrest Gump-themed wedding."

In a 2013 interview Amy told Vanity Fair she wasn't in a rush to head down the aisle, stating, "I'm not getting married anytime soon", and she later told Allure magazine, "We (fiance Darren Le Gallo and I) both have a very specific idea that we want to do this ceremony in spring or fall, like in those months, but every time I'm busy working. I want something very family oriented and laid back."

However, the actress is thrilled to be married now.

"We've been together 13 years and we finally did it and it was so much fun," she said. "I'm so happy I did it."

The couple has been together since 2001 and has a five-year-old daughter named Aviana.
